Mysteries and magic; Visions fantastic

Another lovely day in LA today. But this time I am heading to Disneyland. My friend Jen and I are going there to Watch Fantasmic tonight. We both really love this show. And as great as World of Color is, it's no match for Fantasmic for me. I've loved Fantasmic ever since I was a kid and dad or mom would my sis and I to Disneyland once every few years, usually for a birthday or when we had family from out of state visiting. Fantasmic was one of the things we would do. And it was always so cool to see Mickey defeat all the villains, especially Maleficant when she turned into a dragon.

Fast forward to when eventually we didn't go to Disneyland all that much, I think it was like a ten year gap when we finally went back. I remember they were still building what would be known as Disney's California Adventure.

And then fast forward once more to when I was working at Barnes and Noble. and a bunch of them planned to go to Disneyland and I was invited too. I remember asking if we can make time for Fantasmic, a little worried that they would say "nah..." cause it's not that good. But to my surprise and delight they readily agreed. That day passed in a whirl of amazing as I rode a rollar coaster for the first time*, got to get to know the Noble Crew as my friend Kevin dubbed us, a lot better then I had before, and generally just had a blast! Finally that night we all gathered on some steps on the Rivers of America to view Fantasmic. I remember being a little worried that it would not be as amazing as I thought it was when I was 8. And then the familair female voice announcing that we would see if Mickey was strong enough to stop the forces of evil that invade Mickey's dreams and that high pitch note that starts oh so quietly and slowly gets louder till the lights come out of the stage all bright and blinding and Finally, all the lights on our side go out at once with the music... And rewatching the show I had enjoyed as a child. Tearing up when the princesses appeared dancing with their princes, watching the dragon threaten Mickey and seeing Mickey beating the Dragon, to say nothing of his oh so adorable dancing when the show started...

Rewatching Fantasmic was the best Disney memory I have- because the show I loved as a child was not dated or lame. It was, well, fantastic. And no matter what new shows Disney puts out, no matter how much I love watching them, they will never hold a candle to Fantasmic!

Whatever Happened to Saturday Night?

I worked from 7am to 3:50pm today. The first 4 hours was taking care of the bookkeeping, after that I was in takeout. Which was really slow, especially cause Frank was scheduled to work with me and you really don't need to people at takeout on Saturday during the lunch shift. The worst part was splitting the tips. I got $18 instead of $27. Oh well, hopefully it won't be a permanent thing. After work I rushed home to change, cause tonight, me and Cassandra are going to Disney's* California Adventure to dance at ElecTRONica in the Hollywood Studios Backlot. ElecTRONica is basically a nightclub (yes with alcohol) with a Tron Theme.

They first started the nightclub concept last summer with their GlowFest. Basically the same as ElecTRONica but with a neon color scheme (instead of ElecTRONica's blue and black color scheme). But while that one was just all dancing, ElecTRONica also had a sneak peek at Tron: Legacy, a pretty swank bar to hang out at, and Flynn's. Ok so if you haven't seen the first Tron film. The protagonist of the story owned an arcade called Flynn's and it played a pretty critical role in the sequel. And Disney, geniuses that they are, recreated the arcade at DCA. The best part was that they didn't fill it with all the currant games that everyone is playing. Oh no, the arcade had all the classic games the the generation before me (and partly mine as well) enjoyed. Games like the first Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Pong, Pac-Man, Galaxian, etc etc. Truly fantastic games from my childhood that I sucked at** but really loved. And to top it off, Disney bought the old change machines and made special Flynn arcade tokens. So just like in the 80s and early 90s you put a buck into the machine and got back 4 tokens to play with. A lot of people consider ElecTRONica superior to GlowFest and while I never got to experience GlowFest, I don't imagine they're wrong. I haven't heard it officily confirmed, and I heard it from a work buddy, and not from the few podcasters and/or twitter accounts who always seem to get their facts starlight, but apparently, when ElecTRONica comes to an end on Labor day*** GlowFest will make a reappearance, I hope they add to it to make it more then just a club though... But since it's not attatched to a movie I have no idea what they can add...

Well Cassandra should be here soon so I'll say bye now. Talk to you later!

DFTBA!

*I know Disney has altered their brand recently and they've dropped the "'s" but honestly, I grew up calling everything Disney's. I don't plan on changing that anytime soon...
**a skill level I have never gone passed. Seriously, my hand eye coordination SUCKS
***this is how popular ElecTRONica ended up being: it was only supposed to last ti early January, then mid march, then spring time, and finally Labor Day. No complaits from me :)

Going to Disneyland, Work Blows, and my top 5 movies

So I'm going to Disneyland today! I can't wait to ride Haunted Mansion and take pictures of everything. It's my first time going this Month so i'm really excited, although I have to talk to the ticket people cause i kinda left my annual pass in the dryer and it got all jacked up... whoops...

in other news Work is making me come in on Halloween from 4pm to Midnight. Ugh! all I wanted to do was take my cousins trick or treating and then go to my friends house in time to start NaNoWriMo off right, but No. And lately the managers have been kind of asshole-ish lately which is making me really think about calling in "sick" that day which I never do...

But I'm not gonna think about that... I'm gonna think about a list. The Top 5 Movies i can watch over and over again:

5. Beauty and the Beast

4. Stranger then Fiction

So thats my list. It was really hard to narrow it down to just 5 since i'm pretty easy to please, as far as hollywood is concerned... but still these are some great movies right?

So whats on your list?

Time Gone By and Future Plans.

After my totally awesome trip to WDW (except for the heat and coming home sick- damn you Florida) I have ended up back at school, Health test today (i hope i get a B at least) have to make up a Geo test, and catch up on online homework. Plus I need to (finally) watch Watchman. And clean up my room- I think my laundry is mutating again.

Last week on Sunday, I went to Disneyland. My friend was going with her friends from work to check out the new Halloween stuff going on and she invited me too. So I got to see the new Fireworks show and ride Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy. The fireworks were cool, except we were way back in Main Street (so not my Idea cause I always stand close to the castle) so I want to go back so that I can get a better look at the globe with Jack's and all the Villain's faces and also see Zero fly from up close. The fireworks were very Similer to WDW's Hallowishes, but we have that cool globe thing...

Ghost Galaxy was meh. Not worth the 65 min wait. In the beginning it was cool but there was just the one creature swiping at you over and over again, and it got old fast. As far as Space Mountain Promos go I like Rockin' Space Mountain a lot better. BUT, at night, the white building itself is pretty badass. They have all these starange creepy lighting on the building that slowly changes in color and texture. This goes on for about 10 minutes, and then you get these roughly 30 second moments of something happening to space mountain. Like something on the inside puching the building with so much force that it is cracking. Or something is slashing at the building or an alien invasion seems to be occuring, or strange lights are moving up... seriously cool.

I also FINALLY saw Murphy during Fantasmic! (Murphy being the nickname of the Dragon that was suppose to debut at the beginning of Summer for SummerNightastic) a little stiff but it is so great to see Maleficant actually turn into a dragon! and it is nice to see a really well created dragon, as opposed to the previous version, Bucky, who, bless her soul, was nothing more then a really cool looking head, a crane, and a lot of fabric...

Oh, so I've done it- for the 1st time ever I'm going to participate in National Novel Writing Month that happens every year in November. 50,000 in 30 days or 1,667 words a day. Thats roughly 175 pages. So a short Novel (or Novela). I don't know what I'm going to write about, but I think it will be Fantasy genre. Maybe soemthing like Kyo Kara Maoh where the "chosen one" is sent to live on Earth and then must return to their world to save it. I know for sure it will be a female protagonist... i can't pre write anything before November but i can think and plan... and create characters and then make friends with them and imagine how they will react to my life and see how different they are. Especially the protagonist, whoever she is...

Its a good thing I don't have to start until November, cause i have roughly 15 days to write not only my comic review for Tomadachi-zine.com, but also i want to finish my review of Geek Out Loud podcast (the official podcast of geekoutonline.com), and I need to write a short scary story for the Halloween issue... no clue what to do for that, maybe a haunted house story...

Well in any case that's life for now. Its gonna get crazy in like 5 seconds so I'm heading out. Peace out, y'all

The End

It's Wednesday, we leave Florida today. It'll be nice to be back in LA with weather I'm familiar with, and my own room and bed. I want to begin feeling out who'd want to go to Disneyland with me and when (hopefully soon). I want to get back into the groove of my life. I guess the fact that I'm not dreading real life means this vacation did a good job of relaxing me but not making me wish my life were different. After all, vacations are temporary few and far in between.
But enough about that. The trip itself was great! We hit all four parks and saw the shows and rode the rides, and had great food too! My absolute favorite ride was Rock 'n Rollar Coaster at Hollywood Studios and my favorite park? Well, that ones a bit harder to answer because each park had something amazing and something meh. But I guess my fave would be either Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios.
It was cool to compare DLR with WDW seeing which park did what better (or worse) and how the same idea ends up very differently. I think that while no park is better then the other (after all they each have their pluses and minuses) I still am happy to be closer to Disneyland. Maybe it's a comfort thing, or because DL is easier to manage, I'm not sure. And again I've been to DLR many many times and this is only my first trip to WDW- maybe if I had the opportunity to visit both parks a lot my mind would change. But right now I can say that Disneyland still has my heart.
